Today, let’s talk about an important day. It is a sad story, but we must remember it. Let’s go back in time to a summer in Japan, long ago. It was a time of war, but people had hope. On this day, a normal morning changed forever.
It was August 6th, 1945. The sky in Hiroshima was blue. It was a normal day. People went to work. Children played. At 8:15 AM, everything changed. An American plane dropped an atomic bomb. The bomb’s name was “Little Boy.” It exploded in the sky.
First, there was a bright light. Then came terrible heat and wind. The heat melted metal. People’s clothes burned. Houses broke. Then, a black rain fell. This rain was poison called radiation. It made people sick. Many were hurt and thirsty.
They cried, “Water, please…”
By the end of the year, about 140,000 people were dead. Each person had a name and a family. This was the first time a nuclear weapon was used. We must not forget this.
It is easy to think of good and bad people. But the story is not simple. A wise person said, “Kindness stops fighting.” This means we should understand, not hate. Forgiving is not forgetting. It means choosing peace. The soldiers on the plane were following orders. One soldier later said, “I still see that sight in my dreams.” They were also very sad. The scientists who made the bomb also felt sad. They knew they made a terrible weapon. Understanding pain is the first step to kindness.
Here is a story about my family. My grandmother had a shop during the war. Many people came, so she heard the news. She told me, “In May 1945, many people knew Japan was losing. We felt it was almost over.” This was the real feeling of the people. My grandmother said, “When I heard about the new bomb, I thought, ‘This is the end’.” Nine days later, the war finished. Her story shows that history is about real people.
The bomb, the soldiers, and my grandmother’s memory connect on August 6th, 1945. Remember: “Kindness stops fighting.” What can we learn? We can visit the Peace Museum. We can talk about peace. We can try to understand others. People said nothing would grow in Hiroshima for many years. But today, it is a beautiful city with green trees. This shows people can build a new future after bad times. It is our job to make a peaceful world.
